Where is the Wedding Tree?

The Wedding Tree is located about 30 minutes from Jackson Hole in the Bridger Teton National Forest. The parking area only accommodates about 8 vehicles, so if your group is on the larger side it would be best to hire one of the shuttle services in town. From the parking area, it’s a leisurely 3 minute walk to the official ceremony site on a well maintained path!

What is the maximum capacity of the Wedding Tree?

The Wedding Tree can accommodate up to 75 guests, but its intimate setting is best suited for elopements and smaller weddings. For the most comfortable and experience, I recommend keeping your guest list closer to 20–30 people, especially given the limited parking and rustic nature of the location.

How to reserve the Wedding Tree for a Ceremony

To reserve the Wedding Tree for your ceremony, you will need to obtain a special-use permit through the Bridger-Teton National Forest via the Wedding Tree website. Because the Wedding Tree is a popular location, it’s best to begin the permit process well in advance as a 30 day notice is required. The non-refundable processing fee to reserve the site is $300, and there are options to reserve it for anywhere from 1 hour to 5 hours!

If you’re planning a ceremony at the Wedding Tree it’s important to follow the rules and regulations set by the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Couples are not allowed to use sound systems, erect arches, scatter flower petals or confetti, and are only permitted to bring chairs if anyone present would have difficulty standing for the duration of the event. Because the Wedding Tree is located on public lands and is a popular destination, it’s important to respect the surrounding environment by staying on designated areas, packing out everything you bring in, and leaving the site exactly as you found it. Rules and permit requirements can change, so always check with the Forest Service for the most current information before your wedding day!

Best time of year for a ceremony at the Wedding Tree

The Wedding Tree is beautiful year-round, but summer and early fall are generally the best seasons for a ceremony if you’re hoping for easier access, comfortable temperatures, and the best chance of clear mountain views. From a photographer’s perspective, each season offers something a little different, so choosing the right time really comes down to the look and experience you envision for your wedding day.

• Summer (June–August): Summer offers warmer temperatures, green landscapes, wildflowers, and long days. June can still have snow on the high peaks, while July and August typically offer warmer conditions. Keep in mind that summer is also the busiest season in Jackson Hole.
• Fall (September–early October): Cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and golden foliage create an incredible backdrop for photos during this time of year. The exact timing of fall color varies from year to year, so there’s never a guarantee of peak color on your wedding date.
• Winter (November–March): For adventurous couples who love snow, a winter ceremony can be absolutely magical. However, expect cold temperatures, snow-covered roads and trails, and potentially more challenging access. The Bridger Teton National Forest recommends a 4-wheel drive vehicle during this time of year.
• Spring (April–May): Spring is the most unpredictable season. Lingering snow, muddy conditions, and changing weather are all possible, but it can be a beautiful and quieter time for couples who don’t mind a little uncertainty.

Directions to the Wedding Tree in Jackson Hole

Getting to the Wedding Tree from Jackson is a beautiful drive that takes about 30 minutes. From downtown Jackson, head north on US-89/US-26/US-191 toward Grand Teton National Park. After approximately 7 miles, turn right at the Gros Ventre Junction and follow the road toward Kelly. Continue through Kelly, then turn right onto Gros Ventre Road and follow it for about 3.5 miles into the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Look for the Wedding Tree parking area on the right near the top of the hill. From the parking area, it’s a short walk up the trail to the ceremony site.
